Global Leadership Summit Comments

Check out what past Texas State attendees have to say about the Global Leadership Summit (formerly the Student Leadership Forum):

The Leadership Forum was a great experience and it surprised me that not only are there students from all over the U.S., but all over the world! I had a great time learning about myself and meeting other like-minded students. It was so motivating to hear stories about other students' success and know that I am one of them.

-Diana, Accounting major

Attending the BGS Leadership Forum really allowed me to get a different perspective about how I saw myself as a leader. Not only was it informative in the way that it presented the mechanics of what makes a dynamic leader, it also gave me an insight into my own personality. It was a much more introspective experience than what I expected. The insight I gained about myself and the connections I made with other students around the country, made this event well worth attending. I would recommend this to anyone that has the opportunity to participate in it.

This experience was truly invaluable. I have been to many conferences, but none have had an impact like this one did. I came home from the forum with new friends (from all around the world!), a better sense of who I am and a plan for the direction my life is headed. Also, I learned a great deal about leadership and vision. After attending the forum, I am very optimistic about my future as an accountant. I am especially excited about some of the tasks I will get to conquer in the road ahead of me which before the forum I was scared of approaching. I am so glad that I am a student in the McCoy College of Business, and to have the opportunity to attend events like the Beta Gamma Sigma Leadership Forum.

-Jacie, Accounting major

The Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum was one of the most amazing and transformative experiences of my life.  The conference was so much more than I ever could have expected.  So many leadership forums are a rehash of information I've heard countless time before, but this conference was completely different.  I went in not really knowing what to expect, but left with the feeling that my life had been changed forever.

The sessions I participated in at the conference were inspiring and gave me renewed energy to succeed in my academic life and future career. The presenters and staff truly care about the students and shared wisdom with us which I continue to reflect on every day. Even more amazing were the people I met that weekend: It was an honor to be surrounded by so many intelligent and fun-loving business students.  I know they are all going places in life and I look forward to staying in touch with everyone I met.

The BGS Student Leadership Forum was far more than I ever could have expected.  I feel more secure in who I am as a person, both professionally and personally.  I cannot adequately express in words how much the experiences I had that weekend have impacted my life: All I can say is that I am so grateful I was given the opportunity to attend the forum. I look forward to using the wisdom and inspiration I gained at the conference to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone around me!

Through the BGS Student Leadership Forum, I learned so much about myself as a leader and as a person. Going in I thought I may come out with some insight on how to improve as a leader but I walked away with so much more. I learned not only how to be a good leader but also how to be a better and more fulfilled human being.

The forum focused on so much more than leadership skills. We were encouraged to look deep within ourselves and discover what truly makes us happy, what we want to achieve in life, and how we can accomplish that. I was able to take a step back and reevaluate where I am in my life and where I want to end up. The BGS leadership forum was so much more than a leadership forum, it was a weekend self-discovery.

I had a wonderful time and met some amazing young individuals who were all at a similar point in their life as me. Being around others who were also there working on themselves was great inspiration. Everyone was so engaged, friendly, and excited to be there. The forum helped me realize who I am as an individual, what I truly want out of life, and how to be myself and apply all of it to my leadership skills in order to discover who I am and who I can be as a leader. I had a wonderful time in St. Louis at the leadership forum and would encourage anyone invited to the forum to attend.

-Stephanie, MAcy student

This was a life-altering experience and completely beneficial in every way. The majority of the forum focused on developing self-awareness, defining success as you see it, and realizing what's most important to you in a career and life. It was a great experience, helped me put some things into perspective and just really reminded me of who I am.

-LeKisha, MBA student

The Student Leadership Forum was an experience unlike any other! I learned many things including how to be a successful leader, as well as the importance of relationships and character. Integrity, involvement, and networking are of up-most importance and crucial to help build strong relationships. The integration of both information as well as team building exercises created a fun environment for personal growth.

I learned more about myself as a person and the direction that I want to go in my life. As a student about to graduate, there were a lot of uncertainties about the steps I needed to take after graduation. The forum helped me put into perspective my goals as well as gave me guidance to help me make the next step. It was one of the greatest and most beneficial experiences that I have ever had in my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity that I had. I highly recommend the leadership forum to anyone who has the opportunity to go!

The Beta Gamma Sigma leadership forum was an amazing experience. It was so much more than interesting speakers, meeting new people, or fun activities. It was a great opportunity to learn about myself and develop leadership skills. At first I was intimidated to be in a room full of all the best and brightest from across the country, but was pleasantly surprised how friendly and open everyone was. This is a great opportunity to really evaluate yourself and your goals. This was a very enriching experience. There was so much I was able to take away from this forum that will impact me in a positive way in everyday life. I hope that anyone who is afforded the opportunity to go to this forum you take it. I feel very fortunate to have been granted the opportunity and promise you will benefit from the experience.

When I arrived at the BGS leadership conference on Thursday evening, I was pleasantly surprised at how welcome each BGS member made me feel.  As I began making friends during the first dinner, I knew immediately this weekend would have a positive impact on my life.  I just did not realize how big of an impact it would actually have on me.  Through each of the planned activities and seminars I was able to take away something that applied to my life.  All of the speakers were not only enthusiastic about their careers, but were also happy to answer any questions afterwards.  I really appreciated how open and honest the speakers would talk with the students during the conference.  It really felt like a personalized conversation between the students and the business professionals.

The conference provided a great venue for each student to take step back and look at what they wanted out of life.  It was very reassuring to sit in a room full of other students who were all just as unsure about their future as I am.  The chance to reflect on myself while in the presence of my peers was the greatest experience of the weekend.  This was a weekend I will never forget and am honored to have participated in it.

I can honestly say that this was the best conference experience of my life. Not only did I learn more about myself as a leader, I also met so many new people that I can truly call my friends after only a weekend. Being surrounded by 85 very accomplished young people is extremely humbling, but each student, including myself, added to the discussion with their varying backgrounds. I wish I could tell you more about the specifics, but it would not do the forum justice; it must be experienced for yourself. The BGS Student Leadership Forum is a life-changing adventure in which any college student would be lucky to partake.

I recently was chosen to go to Tampa, Florida for the 2010 Student Leadership Forum hosted by Beta Gamma Sigma. For four days, I was challenged to think about myself, my future, and the impact I will leave on those around me throughout my life. The most significant take-away though, was knowing there were so many other students in my exact position, and that is was okay to be unsure.

When it was all said and done, I came back to San Marcos with a much clearer picture of what I not only wanted to do career wise, but the impact I wanted to leave on the world around me. I want to thank the Texas State University Beta Gamma Sigma chapter for allowing me this excellent opportunity, as well as encourage all other student members to apply for this event, as it truly was life changing.

In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting much from the Student Leadership Forum. I’ve been to a handful of conferences and seminars that promise a valuable experience but always come up short. The BGS Student Leadership Forum was unlike anything I have ever attended. I struggle to put into words the impact that it has had on my life. As a junior or senior in college, you will surely reach a point of uncertainty when thinking of your future. You begin to second guess decisions as well as your purpose in life. I can’t describe the forum in a short paragraph; however, I can tell you that attending will answer those questions that are burning in your heart. Be involved, be open, and be passionate in your search for these answers.

-Grayson, Management major

The opportunity to attend the Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum has provided me with invaluable resources, insights, and the confidence to lead myself and others as I set out on my journey into the professional world.  Each activity, workshop, panel, and discussion provided answers from a different perspective. They not only answered uncertainties each participant had about the future, but exposed us to the exciting prospects of continuing our education, contributing to the community around us, and the realization that one can find the job of their dreams, even in a poor economic situation.  The panel of recent graduates was so helpful in learning what to expect in the transition from college to a full time job. Not only did the panelists connect with us as students, they understood how important it was to touch on topics such as work/life balance, how to handle oneself in different professional situations, and how to go about a successful job search.

The day-long series of activities geared toward helping students explore their passions was the most beneficial part of the forum for me. The speakers helped students discover questions they may not have known they were seeking the answer to. By the end of the day every single person had a better idea of what they want in life, the non-negotiable aspects of their career path and personal life, and how they are going to achieve their goals.  The entire program was life-changing and the lessons I learned from everyone attending will continue to benefit both my career and my personal life.

The BGS Student Leadership Forum was a once in a lifetime experience for me. Unlike many of the other students there, I didn't know anyone going into it (many of the Universities sent two students) but that quickly changed. The Forum focused on providing us with some insights into what our potentials are as well as what we may want to- and are able to- achieve in the near future. Most of the activities got us interacting with one another, while others were introspective and meant for self-reflection. Whether it be individual, pairs, small groups, or all of us together, each activity brought everyone closer together through the idea that we all still have so much to learn about who we are and what we want to accomplish. While the activities we engaged in were inspiring, it was the relationships with the other students that made the experience life-changing. I have never met so many motivated, intelligent, thoughtful people in one place before. We all became so close over those three days and formed friendships that will not long be forgotten. Everything that I gained from the BGS Student Leadership Forum I will take with me for the rest of my life!
